There are several elements to the young leaders programme, including – after-school tutorials, a Saturday academy, events and activities during the holidays, mentoring from business leaders and professionals, plus volunteering and training in citizenship.
However, as LYLA is a new charity we have yet to establish the full programme delivered by EYLA. As of January 2009 we have established the following: -
After School Tutorial Programme
The After School Tutorial Programme meets from 3.30 to 6.00 pm Monday to Wednesday. Its purpose is to help our young leaders raise their levels of academic achievement.
Classes, which are led by qualified teachers, are fun and culturally sensitive.

Each child is given an individual learning they plan they work through with support from tutors and peers.
Saturday Academy
This element of the programme has been designed to focus on the skills necessary for effective leadership. Children are given training in social skills, public speaking and business acumen.
Holiday Programme
During half terms and school holidays our
young leaders further develop their
leadership skills by undertaking a varied
programme of projects and events
including: - field trips, sporting activities,
small business management, educational
and cultural visits, etc. |
Mentoring Plus
The Academy recognises the value of positive role models and therefore uses a pool of professionals to provide 1-2-1 mentoring and advice. Participating professionals include local and national politicians, business leaders and community activists.
Family Support Network
Parents are expected to be actively involved in the work of the Academy. As a result parents are expected to attend monthly family meetings and contribute wherever they can to ongoing development of the academy.
